"I bought my wife a beauty portrait experience for her birthday. I wanted her to have something special, something for her. When I saw the results she looked so beautiful and I remembered why I married her in the first place." – David

Perth Beauty Portraits

What are Beauty Portraits or Beauty Photography? My experience has shown that Beauty Photography is really an umbrella term encompassing several different but not dissimilar genres of boudoir, glamour, lingerie and nude photography. A lot of the time these genres overlap each other in any given session. What they do have in common though is a purpose. They all share the goal of allowing the person being photographed to see her true beauty, something that most people have a lot of trouble seeing in themselves.

"With two kids, a few extra pounds, a part time job and a house that is always messy I certainly didn’t feel sexy or special. I did a nude beauty shoot and WOW! I felt amazing, I dropped a dress size or two (thankyou Photoshop) and I can now see who I can be not who I feel." – Natalia

There are many reasons why we do not feel that we are anything special. The distorted view of beauty portrayed in magazines, movies and advertising does not help. Our own lives also contribute: work, children, stress, bills etc also distracts from the real and authentic person that you are. But one of the most important things that I have discovered through photographing dozens of women in my studio is that “real beauty” is a state of mind, a projection of energy from within and I have found that I have become quite good at allowing my clients to start to express their authentic beautiful selves. That is something most people would never guess is a feature of a portrait photographers job description, but it is, and one of the main reasons I love my job.

"I have been through a rough patch lately and I felt pretty down about myself. A friend suggested a beauty portrait session with Paul from Lensflair. He showed me that I really am a beautiful person and helped me to get my confidence back." – Angie

"WOW amazing photos, I just wanted to buy them all." – Anna

"I never thought that I would feel confident in front of the camera but Paul has a way of making it fun and genuine as if by magic…and I think I can even learn to live with those few extra post baby kilos LOL." – Kath

Allison's Story

Allison is a 36 year-old mother of two with a husband, a mortgage and a dog. She tries to hold down a part time job, manage school drop-offs, weekend junior sports and bring order to a chaotic household. For Allison there never seems to be enough hours in the day and I get the feeling that a lot of the spark that her and her husband once shared has faded over the years.

There are many reasons why a lot of women decide to venture down the path of a Beauty Photography experience. For Allison it was a very common reason “I wanted to capture who I was as a woman before I got too old. I have felt that my life is wasted, going nowhere and I am afraid that one day I will wake up and suddenly realise I am not young anymore.”

“I also feel a bit fat, and I have been putting it off until I lost a few more kilo’s but I don’t think that will happen, so thighs look like trumping wrinkles.”

Allison was typical of a great many of my clients. Her self-esteem had taken a bit of a beating over the years and she had trouble seeing that she does indeed have beauty, that she is a beautiful woman. Unfortunately she believed that a few apparent extra kilos made her unattractive.

“I suppose I don’t feel sexy anymore. I look in the mirror and I don’t see what I see in magazines or swimsuit commercials. I don’t see how my husband could still find me sexy. I suppose I have been shutting him out lately because deep down I can’t accept that he would find me attractive still.”

Does this sound familiar? Of course it does. Allison was not alone in how she felt about herself and her life. So how did the shoot change things for her?

“I was nervous at first…I don’t really like having my picture taken. I was expecting a paparazzi-like blaze of flashes…orders to do this pose do that pose…but it was the total opposite. We had a bit of a chat, took some photos, had a bit more of a chat, a few laughs, a few words of encouragement a few more photos, it was amazing. I began to feel so comfortable. Paul is so genuine, so understanding and definitely not judgemental. He made me feel at ease and confident”

“What have I learnt?...well curves can be sexy…beauty comes from confidence and accepting yourself warts and all…or as Paul says it the optional extras. I am trying to learn to radiate beauty and believe in myself instead of feeling negative about myself...better than a therapy session”

“How did my photos turn out? They were incredible. My shoot was very artistic…abstract…the images in black and white were so classy. I look at them and I know I am beautiful…I will treasure these forever. Yes I spent more than my budget but it was worth it. And yes my husband does think I am sexy.”

Would she recommend a Lensflair Beauty Experience? “Hell Yeah! Do it!”
